Facebook users have voted to back changes which give them control over information and content they post on the site. Responding to the feedback, Facebook withdrew the modified terms, wrote a brand new set and invited its 2 hundred million members to make their perspectives known.

The new terms return control of what’s done with info put on the site to users and give them the legal right to ask for it to be removed if they stop using Facebook. At first , Facebook asserted it would only adopt those new terms if thirty percent of its members voted supporting them.

However, writing in a blog posting on Facebook asserting the early results, Ted Ullyot, Facebook’s legal chief, asserted it would adopt them any way. “You can expect to see the new documents on the site in the approaching weeks,” wrote Mr Ullyot. He claimed an initial count recommended 74.4% backed the new Facebook Elements and Statement of Rights and Responsibilities.

Mr Ullyot voiced discontentment that there wasn’t a bigger turnout but recognized that the exercise was a first for both Facebook and its members. Future votes on changes to the way the site operates, which are enshrined in the new terms, will have an edge of less than thirty percent for any alterations to be made binding.
