Podcasting is a new format for distributing audio and video content over the Web . From the technical perspective, podcasting involves nothing new it’s just embedding of multimedia-content ( audio or video ) into an RSS feed. Structurally, a podcast is an RSS file that contains links to enclosure files.

Apple has developed iTunes an RSS extension to be used with podcasts. ITunes noticeably improves upon the capacities of RSS by providing extra fields ( like keywords, duration and so on. ) to be used by describing enclosures. The hottest way to get audio files for podcasting is to record them from the microphone and compress the file into MP3 format.

When all multimedia files and the RSS feed of the podcast are prepared, they must be revealed on a web-server in order for the users to be ready to access them. Podcasting is quickly becoming more popular. More users become mindful of it each day.

This may be explained by the supposed iPod phenomenon. In 2005, podcasting became the Word of the Year of the Oxford Compendium . Podcasting is employed in absolutely different fields : mass media, selling, production and even faith. Many of us envision that podcasting ultimately will replace radio. Even if you can, the amount of radio stations is rather limited.

In the best case, you may be ready to study world events, but not about, say, the features of new RSS readers. Now imagine getting up in the morning and taking your mp3 player ( or connecting it to your car audio player ) and whilst on your way to the office having the ability to hear the news printed on your favorite web site, just like you used to hear the radio.

The news segments were downloaded and synchronized with the player immediately when plugged into your PC overnight. Fantastic?

No. Reality! This is the chance that podcasting provides. You can subscribe to the podcasts that you are interested in and hear them when and where you would like.

Isn’t that the prospects of radio?
