Tech Suave Review: Samsung Finesse SCH-r810

Welcome back! It is nice to see you back again.

The Samsung Finesse SCH-r810 has a design and interface similar to that of Alltel’s Samsung Dig and T-Mobile’s Samsung Behold, but it is not precisely the same.

It is trendy and sleek and it offers decent multimedia features. It actually adds aptitude and, dare we are saying, refinement to MetroPCS’s otherwise dull lineup. The Samsung Refinement is one of the costliest MetroPCS devices at $350, but keep in mind the company does not need any contracts. The Refinement has really similar features to the Dig excepting some services that only MetroPCS offers.

You may also pair them with a photograph for caller ID, and one of sixteen polyphonic ringtones.

You can set a contact to not have a ringtone at all. Another MetroPCS service is Metro411, which gives you make voice search for nearby companies.

There are a few methods to send a SMS message : you may either use the landscape normal keyboard, the virtual keypad for T9 entry, or a writing recognition tool in either full or half screen. We were fond of both the virtual keypad and writing recognition, but would favor the standard keyboard for typing out text.

We basically made a few blunders when typing things out in a hurry, so we’d appreciate some type of autocorrect feature. Be aware of the Refinement does not have an accelerometer, so you can not simply switch keyboards by leaning the telephone.

Like most touch-screen phones, the Finesse is one enormous slab of a telephone with a giant touch-screen display dominating its whole front surface. It does have some differences however–the 3 physical keys underneath the display are not as flat, and the power button, which also doubles as the screen lock key, is on the top. Those 3 keys under the display correspond to the Talk, Back, and End keys respectively.

We rather like the Refinement’s 3.2-inch display.

Though it is not as wide as the 3.5-incher on the Apple iPhone, it’s marginally larger than the 3-inch one on the Dig . The 262,000-color screen is bright and colourful, and we like the colorful animated icons. You can change the lightness, the backlight time, the banner on the home screen, and the main menu style.

The touch-screen interface has a vibration feedback, but if you do not like it, you can switch it off. You may also adjust the vibration’s power. The menu interface is similar to the Dig’s. It features Samsung’s TouchWiz interface, that has an extendable tray of ten drag-and-drop widgets that you can place on the home screen.

On the head of the home screen display is a collapsible shortcut bar for messaging, the Web browser, the music player, and the Bluetooth menu. Along the base of the display are shortcuts for the telephone dialer, the contacts menu, the messaging menu, and the main menu.

The Samsung Refinement is a good-looking telephone with a responsive touch-sensitive screen and an easy-to-use TouchWiz interface. It does not have an accelerometer or Wi-Fi.  Yet it is still a great touch-screen phone and a solid choice for MetroPCS shoppers.
