The HTC Touch Pro2 features a pointy, roomy touch-sensitive screen and an easy-to-use full standard keyboard. The Windows Mobile smartphone also includes teleconference management tools for business users and offers good call quality. However, the smartphone is heavy and massive. No U.S. 3G support on this variation and it’s expensive.

In the summer of the Palm Pre, Apple iPhone 3GS, Nokia N97, and T-Mobile MyTouch 3G, the Windows Mobile camp has been pretty quite on the touch screen smartphone front. However, there’s been one WinMo device that keeps turning up in comment threads, forums, and emails when this group is discussed and that is the HTC Touch Pro2.

Announced at GSMA 2009 in Feb , the Touch Pro2 is the replacement to the HTC Touch Pro but sadly, it has not been asserted for a U.S. Carrier yet. However, there’s been so much interest over the phone that HTC was nice enough send us an unlocked EU model so we’d be able to give you a preview, and we like what we see. The HTC Touch Pro2 is available now unlocked for $600 to $700 but we’d suggest waiting till a northern US version is declared ( Run and T-Mobile are among the suppliers rumoured to get the device ) so you can get a price break as well as the addition of U.S. 3G support.

The HTC Touch Pro2 is both beauty and the beast. The smartphone is certainly eye-catching with its hazy mirrored face and enticing silver surrounding, but it is also an attention grabber for its large size. Measuring 4.57 inches tall by 2.33 inches by 0.68 in. thick and weighing 6.61 oz, the Touch Pro2 does not appear that much larger than the Nokia N97 ( 4.6 inches tall by 2.1 inches wide by 0.6 in. thick ; 5.29 oz. ) or T-Mobile G1 ( 4.6 inches tall by 2.1 inches by 0.6 in. deep, 5.6 oz. ). However, in hand, it feels noticeably heavier and thicker and the bulkiness is a turn off. This is not a handset that’s going to fit nicely in a pants pocket.
